A major version that changes no rule, definition or number of Versions 1.0–1.2 and adds the Charterion Layer Model: six layers, from motivation and strategy to the agentic runtime, stacked in the order authority is derived. It is major because it renames a term in a normative chapter and adds a normative Part and a fourth architect question; a 1.x model gives the same results under 2.0. It also carries everything Version 1.2 added, since 1.2 has no deposit of its own in this record's version history.
Highlights
- The Charterion Layer Model: six layers and three cross-cutting aspects, each layer with an owner and an approval regime.
- Tools, memories, runtime nodes, gateways and MCP servers, model endpoints, policy points, containment zones and halts become elements of the model.
- Six checks and one coherence condition, WF21–WF26 and CC8, in an opt-in layered profile that leaves every earlier result unchanged.
- A fourth architect question: on which nodes, through which tools and model endpoints does this agent act, and can its overseer halt it there?
- A Layer Delta Matrix: per layer, what Charterion keeps from ArchiMate 3.2 and TOGAF 10, what it reinterprets and what it adds.
- 43 agentic building blocks, 10 patterns, four layered viewpoints and the Charterion-MXF 2.0 exchange format, with a migration note from 1.x.
- The substrate's five layers are renamed facets, so that “layer” has one meaning.
- From Version 1.2: a reference substrate service over MCP, a core partly machine-checked in Lean 4, a public benchmark of 923 models, and a first run on three public ArchiMate models.
- Evidence for every 2.0 item is analytical, experimental on synthetic models or demonstrated on the author's cases; none comes from an organisation.
Description as deposited
Charterion™ — Agentic Enterprise Architecture Framework, Version 2.0 (September 2026)
Charterion is a formal, continuous and verifiable enterprise architecture framework for organisations acted upon by autonomous software agents. Agents are principals of the enterprise model; their authority is derived from business scope through charters; every entitlement carries an architectural justification; and every answer the model gives at run time carries its warrant (provenance, confidence, validity, status). The framework comprises a content metamodel with a stratified-Datalog semantics and proved properties, a continuous method mapped onto the TOGAF ADM, a governance model expressed as checkable conditions, an artefact and viewpoint catalogue, an ArchiMate 3.2 specialisation profile, an exchange format, a reference implementation and five worked sector cases.
Version 2.0 is a major version that keeps every definition, condition, proposition and algorithm of Versions 1.0–1.2 unchanged. It adds the Charterion Layer Model: a layered reference architecture for the agentic enterprise with six layers — Motivation & Strategy, Business, Agency (promoted to a core layer), Application, Data & Knowledge, Technology / Agentic Runtime — and three cross-cutting aspects (Warrant/Trust, Governance, Boundary), ordered as the derivation of authority from purpose to provisioned grant. Runtime and knowledge machinery — tools, memories, runtime nodes, orchestrators, tool gateways and MCP servers, model endpoints, policy decision and enforcement points, containment zones, halt controls, telemetry, the assertion store and the decision log — become sorts and predicates of the model rather than prose about the platform, read by six new well-formedness conditions and one coherence condition (WF21–WF26, CC8) in an opt-in layered profile whose stratum provably preserves the v1.2 semantics. A Layer Delta Matrix states, layer by layer, what the framework keeps from ArchiMate 3.2 and the TOGAF 10 Content Framework, what it reinterprets and what it adds. Version 2.0 also adds a catalogue of agentic architecture building blocks and patterns, four layered viewpoints, Charterion-MXF 2.0 and a migration note from 1.x; the five facets of the execution-plane substrate are renamed so that "layer" has one meaning.
Evidence for every v2.0 construct is analytical, experimental on synthetic models or demonstrative on the author's cases; no naturalistic evidence is claimed.
